This webinar on Xylazine use and prevention took place in the spring of 2025 and was presented by staff from the Center for Injury Research and Policy- Nichole Michaels Lab, at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. This webinar reviewed Xylazine use risk factors and prevalence in the United States, explored state and federal actions around use monitoring, and discussed strategies to address Xylazine use within local communities.

Exploring Xylazine Misuse and Prevention

Presenters: Aleah Cumberbatch is a Research Associate at Nationwide Children’s Center for Injury Research and Policy. She completed her undergraduate and graduate studies at Ohio University before joining Dr. Michaels’ team at NCH in 2021. Jacob Holycross is a Research Associate in Dr. Michaels’ Lab at CIRP, working on a study to implement a harm reduction strategy for opioid overdoses. He received his undergraduate degree from OSU and his MPH from George Washington University. Maddie Lewis is a Research Associate at Nationwide Children’s Hospital currently working on a statewide study focused on overdose prevention. She earned her bachelor’s degree in health sciences with minors in human rights and public policy from The Ohio State University. Natalie Vargas earned her bachelor’s degree in public health from Ohio State University and is pursuing her MPH in Health Behavior and Health Promotion at OSU.
